“When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” Mark 8:34-35 (NKJV)
When Jesus spoke those words, He was doing more than giving us a prescription for getting to heaven. He was telling us how to live a life of quality and victory here on earth.
You see, there’s a superior life that we can live right here and right now. It is the high road. But to get in on it, we need to lay down the way of life that most of us have become accustomed to. We might have to let go of the very things that we have been trying so hard to latch on to. To live this high life, we must set our hearts on doing what God wants us to do.
That’s exactly what Jesus did. He didn’t live His life for Himself. He lived it completely for His Father. He did only what God told Him to do—and He lived in complete victory. His life was victorious every day up to the cross and up through the assention.
Inviting Jesus into your heart and making Him Savior is not something we do just to miss hell. Our purpose is to make Him Lord and to gain a relationship with God. Our mission is to lay down our lives in order to fulfill His desires. We can not successfully juggle the two. We are to be His special vessels of clay in the earth and to do whatever He asks us to do. Our number one priority is to give ourselves to God and to live in communication with Him. We are to spend enough time with Him that we can hear His voice and respond in obedience.
Only when we do that will we be able to live the high life your heart has been longing for. Only then do we fulfill the purpose for which we were created. And only when we do that will we be genuinely fulfilled.
God is good and He blesses His Children. And remember, with God nothing is impossible.
